  Liliane Tomasko, based in New York, focuses on the space and state of consciousness at  the boundary between dreams and reality, showcasing abstract paintings highlighted by the continuous mark-making process of lines and organic forms across the canvas. She explores the bed as an intimate, personal space that reflects emotional states. She approaches it as a creative site where consciousness and the unconscious converge, combining material observation, intuition, and associative thinking in her attention to fabric folds, curves, and spatial depth. Her works feature vivid colors, tonal variation, and lively gestures. This strategy is integral to how she embodies the bed as a space of emotional and conceptual inquiry. Tomasko’s early abstract works are rooted in the physical realm, vividly and imaginatively expressing familiar environments and physiological states. Her recent paintings move beyond direct representation of the physical reality, instead exploring the subconscious through color, shadow, and light. Rather than depicting recognized scenes, the artist creates gestural Traces of unstructured shapes that appear to express an external world beyond the visually or physically perceptible realm. These surfaces shift between clarity and obscurity, emulating the atmospheric power of dreams and memories. She describes the varied accessibility of our deepest feeling through the tension between depth and focus, color and tone.

 Liliane Tomasko(b.1967) is an artist based in New York. She earned her BFA in Fine Arts at Chelsea College of Art & Design and her MFA from the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1988. Since the early 2000s, Tomasko has held numerous solo exhibitions at institutions such as New York Studio School(2010), IVAM(2011), KerlinGallery(2012, 2015, 2019, 2024), The Edward Hopper Museum and Study Center(2022) and Nino Mier Gallery(2023), among others. In 2025, her upcoming solo exhibition include Portrait of Self at PIBI Gallery, Seoul. She has also participated in major group exhibitions at venues including the Albertina Museum(2019, 2022, 2023), Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe(2019), Galerie Max Hetzler(2023) and Lisson Gallery(2025). Her works are held in public and private collections such as the Albertina Collection, IVAM, the Lowe Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, K20 K21 Kunstammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Kunstmuseum Bern, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. 

 런던과 뉴욕을 기반으로 활동하는 릴리안 토마스코는 꿈과 현실의 경계에 있는 공간과 의식 상태에 집중하며, 캔버스 위의 선과 유기적 형상들의 움직임이 돋보이는 추상회화를 선보이고 있다. 작가는 침대를 중심으로 인간의 정서가 반영되는 개인적이고 친밀한 공간을 탐구한다. 그녀는 침대를 의식과 무의식이 교차하는 창의적 장소로 바라보며, 천의 주름과 곡선, 공간감 등에 대한 물질적 관찰과 직관, 연상작용을 결합하여 강렬한 색감과 톤, 생동감 넘치는 제스처를 통해 작품을 완성한다. 이러한 접근은 그가 탐구하는 침대라는 공간을 효과적으로 구현하는 핵심적 요소로서 작용한다. 

 토마스코의 초기 추상 작업이 물질적 세계에 기반하여, 일상적인 환경과 심리 상태를 강렬한 조형 언어로 풀어내었다면, 최근 회화는 물리적 세계의 직접적 재현에서 벗어나, 색채와 그림자, 빛의 미묘한 층위를 통해 무의식을 탐색한다. 작가는 정확하게 인식된 장면을 표현하기보다, 시각적 혹은 물리적으로 감지 가능한 영역 너머의 외부세계를 표현한 것 같은 비체계적 형상들의 자유로운 흔적을 만들어간다. 그녀의 화면은 명료함과 흐릿함 사이를 넘나들며, 꿈과 기억이 지닌 분위기를 모방한다. 이처럼 작가는 초점과 심도, 색과 명암 사이의 긴장을 통해서 감정의 복잡한 깊이를 드러내고 있다. 

 릴리안 토마스코(b.1967)는 첼시 예술디자인대학에서 순수미술 학사를, 런던 왕립미술원에서 순수미술 석사를 취득했다. 2000년대 초반부터 뉴욕 스튜디오 스쿨(2010), IVAM(2011), 컬린갤러리(2012 외 다수), 니노 마이어 갤러리(2023) 등 여러 기관에서 개인전을 개최했다. 또한 그녀는 알베르티나 미술관(2019 외 다수), 카를루스에 주립미술관(2019), 리슨 갤러리(2025) 등에서 주요 단체전에 참여했다. 작가의 작품은 알베르티나 컬렉션, IVAM, 로우 아트 뮤지엄, 포트워스 현대미술관, 베른 미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.
