Jiyoung Yoon
Biography
Usually, the starting point of Yoon’s work is when she encounters something that gives her a peculiar sense of discomfort. And this something is usually social narratives or cultural assumptions that people tend to take for granted. And she seeks to reveal the ways in which individuals respond to their given environment and the attitudes they adopt in order to improve their circumstances. At the same time, she also takes interest in interiority, or, in other words, inner structures that are hidden. Her recent exhibitions are as follows: Seeing Things the Way We See the Moon, 2025(daadgalerie, Berlin, Germany) Korea Artists Prize 2024(MMCA Seoul, Korea) Yellow Blues_(2021, One and J. Gallery), Young Korean Artists 2021(MMCA Gwacheon, Korea), This Event (2020, Seoul Museum of Art), Night Turns to Day(2019, Art Sonje Center, Seoul Korea).
윤지영의 작업은 보통 사회적, 문화적으로 당연하게 받아들여지는 이야기들 속에서 묘한불편감을 주는 무언가를 만났을 때 시작된다. 그는 개인이 어떤 상황이나 사건을 받아들이는 태도, 그리고 더 ‘나은’ 상태를 위한 ‘노력’에 관해 여러 작업을 만들었고, 다양한 방식으로 감춰져 있는 내면이나 내부 구조를 드러내는 작업도 만들어왔다. 최근 참여한 전시로는 [Seeing Things the Way We See the Moon] 2025(daadgalerie, 개인전, 베를린), [올해의 작가상 2024], 2024(MMCA 서울), [Yellow Blues_]2021(원앤제이 갤러리, 서울), [젊은 모색 2021] (국립현대미술관 과천) [하나의 사건]2020서울시립미술관, [밤이 낮으로 변할 때]2019 (아트선재센터, 서울) 등이 있다.
